About Girls Mentor Girls

A mentoring family rooted in the Bronx.

We create opportunities for female-identifying BIPOC youth to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-determination through mentorship and community.

Who we are

Our story

Girls Mentor Girls, Inc. is a Bronx-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Michelle Jervis-White. What began over a decade ago as The Girls Circle — a small peer mentoring group built on sharing, support, and listening free of judgment — grew into Girls Mentor Girls as the organization stepped into a new decade.

The name changed. The circle remains. Today, GMG empowers female-identifying BIPOC youth through peer mentoring, exercising social skills, and building sisterhood with each other in a confidential, judgment-free environment.

GMG provides confidential, judgment-free spaces where young people can share their experiences at their own pace while developing commitment, social skills, self-awareness, respect, encouragement, and validation.

Our Mission

To create nurturing spaces where young women of color can cultivate meaningful relationships and bridge the gap between loneliness and connection.

Our Vision

A future where young women of color are surrounded by supportive communities, feel connected, empowered, and confident, and are able to thrive as leaders, change-makers, and catalysts for transformation in their communities.

Who we serve

GMG serves female-identifying BIPOC youth in and around the Bronx — mentees roughly ages 12 to 17, matched with mentors roughly ages 18 to 26 who share lived experience and community roots. Our programs are built specifically with girls' safety, comfort, and voice in mind.

Our approach

Every relationship starts with trust. Mentors and mentees meet regularly in confidential, judgment-free settings — through one-on-one check-ins, peer group sessions, workshops, and community events — so girls can share at their own pace and build the skills to advocate for themselves.
